Advancing Computer Science Careers through Enhanced Networking and Training
If you are a postdoc but do not meet the above requirements, you can still participate in the program as an ASCENT Affiliate. ASCENT Affiliates receive all the benefits available to ASCENT Fellows, with the exception of travel funds and ASCENT certification. Affiliates are welcome to attend all ASCENT programming. If you are interested in becoming an ASCENT Affiliate and receiving information about our professional development opportunities and events, please apply for Affiliate status.
ASCENT Fellows
You are eligible to become an ASCENT Fellow and receive ASCENT Certification if you:
1. Are a Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering postdoc at Columbia, Cornell, CUNY or NYU. All other STEM postdocs are welcome to become Affiliates.
2. Create an Individual Development Plan with your faculty mentor and review/revise it at least once annually. After you create your IDP, you must complete an IDP Submission Form and your mentor must submit an IDP Verification Form to certify completion. You must complete and submit your IDP submission and verification forms within 30 days of your acceptance into the ASCENT Program.
3. Submit an ASCENT Fellow Application.
4. Attend at least 8 of the 12 core events, workshops, or seminars offered by ASCENT each year, including ASCENT Orientation and the Employer Fair and Career Symposium.*
5. Participate in periodic surveys regarding ASCENT programming and your postdoc experience.
*These requirements must be met within one calendar year of your application to the program. Certain attendance requirements must be met before you are eligible to receive travel awards. Postdocs at Cornell Ithaca have different attendance requirements.
